When can I take my
baby swimming?
You can take baby from birth as long as his/her cord is
healed, mothers coming into the water must have finished
post birth bleeding before they can come in. Usually around
6 weeks old you can start.
You no longer have to wait until they have had their
immunisations any concerns should be discussed with
your GP, Health Visitor or by visiting www.immunisation.org.uk
What about illness?
If your baby is unwell it is not advisable that you
come swimming.
What does my baby have to wear?
Double protection which is two swim nappies we recommend
a reusable inner and all swimmers until potty trained
wear a neoprene outer cover, see useful items for correct
nappies.
What about feeding?
Babies need to feed regularly but try to feed your baby
approximately 1 hour before you swim. You can feed straight
after swimming.
How long is the program?
Our program runs from birth to 4 years as we work on
the development of your child up to pre-school age.
Can we get photos?
Yes we run professional photo shoots with Urchin Rock
approximately every 6 months. You will also have the
opportunity to have a DVD of baby as well
Can my partner come as well?
Yes you are both welcome, grandmas and uncles too, however
we ask that you speak to your teacher prior to the lesson
to see how may are in the session before you both come
in. The best opportunity is the weekend workshop where
we invite both parents and/or other family members.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the initial 11 week aqualight babies swimming
course is £104 and this is reduced to £96
for any subsequent courses.
How long before they swim?
Babies are around 18 months to 2 years when they swim
but we have had many babies as young as 14 months propelling
themselves as much as a meter in the water. It will
depend on how often you swim and what age they start.
Do I need to be able to swim
to bring my baby?
Not at all - we help you to gain confidence in the water
and all the pools we use are approximately chest height
or lower. Many parents have conquered their own fears
of the water by taking their baby swimming and watching
you grow into a confident swimming family is a fantastic
experience for all involved.
N.B. We are not medical professionals
and you should always seek advice before bringing baby
swimming as every baby is different.
